early bandits suffered from carb icing and water getting on the ignition coils .... do you know whether either of these problems were fixed on your bike

jonny i would imagine its the manual choke so could be a couple of things
    1 carb icing - douhbtful
2 choke stuck or not operating
3 low petrol, crap in the jets
but need to know if its still turning over as normal and if fuel is evident on the plugs,
if you put the choke on then try to start her up if still no go whip out a plug and see if its got petrol on the plug but ya have to be quick

mickster carb icing was common on bandits .... that's why later models came with heating elements on the carbs

the earlier models were fixed by soaking the coils with WD40 and also covering them with something such as an inner-tube to prevent water getting on them

I think later models came with a gel coating over the coils to protect them

check under the carbs there should be a block under each each one and will have a wire attached to them

the coils were located between the tank and headstock somewhere under the triangluar bits of plastic on the frame give them a generous spray of WD40

finally get yourself some silkolene pro-boost and add it to your fuel tank

    hahahaha

my 96 bandit was a cracking bike in the summer

but in the winter it was a nightmare .... even with the carb warmers and mods to the coils I still found that using a small % of pro-boost kept it running better Biker

Have u checked the stator & regulator?
The stator creates an ac voltage the regulator changes the ac to dc voltage and also maintains that voltage at the right level.
