Need some advice please non related bike

Got a young lad working for me who I have paid for his heavy goods vehicle to drive a lorry of 32 ton........he has only passed 3 weeks ago.

He has been caught speeding and has been given a fine 3 points on his driving licence which has made the insurance higher,already to insure the Truck cost me £3100 for 1 year him being so young 18 years old.

He is a cracking lad and a good worker,but today after he finished work I stopped at the shops to buys some beer and seen him pass by using his mobile phone.

He has hands free in the truck as I also paid for a mobile phone for him on contract........but this was his personal phone.

I gave him a bollocking saying if he was too get caught it's an automatic ban for 18 year olds with 6 points on his licence.

I have also invested a large amount of money in this lad along with time and effort which will be a financial gain to both of us.

Any advice would be grateful.

sts you are right it is a bit young thats the trust I had in him........Am I worried yes massivley......! The thing that pissed me off as I have just had a argument with him that he's trying top justify why he was using a mobile while driving after just getting 3 points on his licence just 4 days ago.

point i was making ( and i really dont know ) is it LEGAL for an 18yr old to drive a 32tonner ( 6 wheeler ?? )

KEEP HIM ON YES...........But I don't think he is responsible enough to take on such a big responsibility yet.

He clearly doesn't consider driving while on the phone as an offence.

If your vehicle is liveried everything he does is a reflection on your business.

Give him a first and final warning, bearing in mind that if he is within a probationary period you have no need to give him any notice or reason for dismissing him.

PS - if you sack him what's the pay like?

hmmm..seems like the young lad is taking a lot for granted and being a bit irresponsible reckless and downright ungrateful to say the least...does he realise how lucky he is to have someone (literally) investing in his future like you are doing ? good jobs with a future are rarer than hens' teeth in the Midlands..I agree with STS and parapanfan...he needs to wake up and smell the coffee...verbal/written whatever warning is on the cards..
then he might start to show a bit of gratitude

I truly value your views,he can graft for a 18 year old and many are impressed with him.

He is good but I think you dry **** ing his arse will scare him to death.

he can use a whole tube of KY and it would still scare him to death, i opt for the three strikes you are out shite personally, seems to work ive only caught one of the tapers smoking twice on the job, I imagine he hides when he knows im on site now.
