I am going to change the sprocket and chain on my bike and not sure what to fit as the replacement with lots of different options available. This is the first time I will have changed them,is it suomething easy enough today.

Went to the workshop round here they want £56 to do it.

Changing the sprockets on my bike Empty sprockets....

    Post  blader2005 Thu Dec 03, 2009 3:27 pm

sugarbear, changing sprockets and chain is a fairly straightforward job if you have a reasonable tool kit, and a little mechanical sense.. (and a haynes manual or similar) i did my own on my blade..
few things to check for.. obviously, get the right ones.. i personally got renthals, and they werent much dearer than the OE.. B&C Express in lincoln. (do mail order)they will also hire you a chain tool..
basically, i cut my old chain off with a dremel, and then counted the links.. so i knew i had the right number in the replacement... when fitting new ones, make sure you do them to the correct torque settings. a torque wrench is the best tool ive ever bought! it sounds a lot more involved than it is.. like i said, a torque wrench, a reasonable tool kit, and a haynes manual.. youll be amazed what you can do!! Smile

    hope this helps!!!

changing chain & sprockets is prolly one of the easiest things too do . . takes about 1/2 hour most . . all ya need

angle grinder ( to nip tops off two links , so ya can remove chain )( 10 sec job )

    decent tool kit

    piece of piss

ya dont really need a special " chain tool kit " youd be wasting yer money
and FFS dont take it to a shop to do , they'll charge ya at least £50 ( robbing bastards )

tip . . remove chain 1st . before anythin . its would be a right bugger too grind when its flopping around loose .
