A School friend of mine had a terrible accident on an R1

A story to tell.

I was in Tesco's yesterday shopping and seen a friend I hadn't seen for 5 months.
Anyway 5 months Previous he was In CMC buying a brand new R1 immediately having it resprayed in the Virgin Media Yamaha colors.

He had this attitude about him that I felt he was going to have an accident and did say to the owner Darren tell him to ride safe take his time and so forth,his reply was I did sell and R1 to you didn't I,and we have proceeder's to advice all bikers that Ride 1000 cc.

Something didn't feel right about this sale,he even asked me what I thought and constantly reminded him to take his time.

Sadly our conversation yesterday was about his accident,he was walking with a limp and had to wear a bag to catch his urine for the rest of his life.

This isn't about I told you so,as I brought an R1 3 Months after passing my test.
Its about having the right attitude to ride a bike what ever CC the bikes is.

Hear Hear WJ, as much as I like a blast, ALWAYS in the back of my mind is the amount of bikers ive resuscitated, and the amount of folks ive told their loved ones are dead...............

heard storys like this many times.
do you know what happend.

Didn't ask to much about how and why it happened as his Mrs was with him,first thing I asked was hows the the bike are you enjoying it.

Wanted to know more,gonna look in archives see if it was in News Or Newspapers.

luckily ... and i mean LUCKILY .. we still have the freedom to buy what we want / ride what we want / when we want ( withing certain perameters / laws ) iv'e ALWAYS maintained " you live by the sword , you die by the sword " this dos'ent mean im an haertless b*stard , what it means is , i would rather me/my mates/family ect ect ect have the right too ride these machines , rather then being nannied ( might still happen ) by the government

heres a " short " list of mates KILLED on bikes


shawn.b .. killed riding 125cc ( dunno which one ) aged 15 ( same age as i were at the time ) 1975

steven.t .. killed riding KH500 1977 aged 20

bob.h killed riding KH250 1978 ( no helmet on )aged 18


would have loved to have gone on there " stag nights " in the years to come , decent mates .. but a distant memory .

OF CORSE THEY WERE PEOPLE I KNEW !!! played with em when we were kids ( play as in like kids play , not fiddle with em ) to think of it they were kids when they died really .

all lived within 100yrds of me ...crickey the funeral directors did a roaring trade in the 70's , with alll the bike fatalities .

Seen many a biker come my way!
Once a biker come through the back exit of the hospital,he was fully clothed with a note in his top pocket saying if I have died riding My bike I have died happy.

Ride safe people.
