OK so I'm walking downtown yesterday and I hear this lawnmower sound and I look up and here's this guy riding his scooter down the street in the snow, I know, it's a scooter and not a bike but.... it started me wondering about something.

Do you ride your bike in the winter in the snow? If not, when do you consider conditions safe to do so? Do you wait till you see green grass or is a good melt enough to get you out there?

Riding your motorcycle in winter in the (snow)! Empty Riding in the snow..WTF...!

Post  wackjonny Tue Dec 22, 2009 2:05 am

what ya gorra remember is some older riders are touching 50 years old or getting close to the big five o.

The weather plays havoc with their Gowt/Arthritis pains.

Needs to be about 24 degrees Fahrenheit for some.

BUT contrary to beliefs ( whackjonnies , who still think the moon is made of cheese ) GOUT is NOT caused by cold weather

GOUT is inflamation of the toe / foot .. caused by defects in the uric acid metabolism , resulting in deposites of acid and its salts in blood and joints

Riding your motorcycle in winter in the (snow)! Empty Snow.............................

    Post  52BlackShadow Tue Dec 22, 2009 3:11 am

Rode into work yesterday, little lanes around me were really icy, but after the first couple of miles I got on the main roads and it was quite clear. Had a problem getting the petrol cap off (Frozen solid) to fill up with juice, and at one point I shut off the throttle and nothing happened cause the cable had frozen inside. Some of the roads round London weren' gritted and were pretty slippy.

Left work about 5:00 last night in really heavy fresh snow, laid on top of ice. Took about 3 hours to ride the 65 miles home. Buses and cars were failing to climb even the slightest inclines because it was frozen solid underneath. I just sat in first gear, barely off tickover and tried to avoid them all.

Have decided it's a good enough excuse to work from home today (yes, I'm one of those approaching 50, so a day in the warm and a cuppa Horlicks is fine by me).

Having said that, I love a days green laning in the snow!

    Ride safe,

    Shad.

Riding your motorcycle in winter in the (snow)! Empty Very nice:

    Post  52BlackShadow Tue Dec 22, 2009 5:39 am

That's lovely, but I don't think it'll be out in the snow much? What's the story, does it belong to you, or a friend? did they restore it, or buy it like that? At least there's plenty of Villiers spares available up in the Midlands.

I've always liked the little Greeves, and have an MDS scrambler, fitted with a 500 Triumph engine (Grumph) sat out in the shed.

BTW, how do we attach an image?

    Ride safe,

    Shad.
